One of the requirements to receive and send mail, is the MX-record in DNS (Mail Exchanger). External mail servers need to get the MX-record for your domain to know where to send the mail to your organisation.

You need a MX-record on an external DNS server. This can be done by your provider or if you host your own DNS server (which can be contacted from the internet) you can add one yourself.

If you want to test the MX-record and see if it is correctly configured, you can use nslookup.exe on the mail server.
