RIPREP images created on (for example hp/compaq dx6100mt/d530s) which have Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet controllers (bcm47x) are not listed as an available choice to other machines on the RIS OS Choices screen – including even a hp/compaq d330m computer which has the same Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet controller.
Likewise, RIPREP images created on other hp/compaq models (such as d230m, d31vm) which have different Ethernet controllers are not available in the RIS OS Choices to the hp/compaq dx6100mt/d530s computers.
Cause
When you use RIPrep to create new images, RIPrep ensures that the images viewed by the client computers are only those that are compatible with the computer. A client computer must have the same type of hardware abstraction layer (HAL) as the image. If it does not, the image will not appear in the list of available operating system installation options.
In this example : The dx6100mt/d530s PC’s have Hyper Threading Technology – thus ACPI Multi-processor HAL is used, whereas the other PC’s use ACPI Uni-Processor HAL.
