Add POP3 or IMAP4 Cluster resource to Exchange 2003 Cluster
By default the following two Exchange 2003 services are not automatically created on an Exchange 2003 Cluster:
- Microsoft Exchange POP3 (POP3Svc)
- Microsoft Exchange IMAP4 (IMAP4Svc)
Note: When you have a front-end / back-end / cluster configuration and you want your users to use the POP3 or IMAP4 protocol, you will need to start the service on both the front-end as well as the back-end!
To add the POP3 or IMAP4 Service to te back-end, follow the following steps:
1. Make sure the POP3 and/or IMAP4 serice are set to start Manual on the Exchange 2003 Cluster and automatically on the front-end (if present)
2. Start the Cluster Admin Tool and connect to the Exchange 2003 Cluster
Right-click on the EVS Group and select New Resource.
Fill in the following for POP3:
Name: POP3 Virtual Server Instance 1
Description: POP3 Virtual Server Instance 1
Resource Type: Microsoft Exchange POP3 Server
Group: EVS Group
Fill in the following for IMAP4:
Name: IMAP4 Virtual Server Instance 1
Description: IMAP4 Virtual Server Instance 1
Resource Type: Microsoft Exchange IMAP4 Server
Group: EVS Group
Click Next
On the Possible Owners screen add all nodes, click Next
On the Dependencies screen select the EVS System Attendant resource and click Next
On the Virtual Server Instance screen select the POP3 Virtual Server instance, click Finish
If you receive the following error, you already have a resource for the POP3 and/or IMAP4 service
All the virtual server instances for this protocol are already in the cluster. ID no: c1037f37
After the cluster resource is created, bring the resource online.
