Slipstream Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2)

The following procedure explains how slipstreaming can be done. As this is a pretty straight forwarded explanation, it can be done for multiple Windows Operating Systems, e.g. Windows 2000. I also tested this procedure with the Dutch version of Windows XP and it worked (I asume it works for all languages).

What do you need?

The following is necessary :

Original Microsoft Windows XP CD
Service Pack 2 for Windows XP
PC with burning capabilities, incl. burning Software (e.g. Nero)
To create a bootable Windows XP SP2 CD, you also need :

Bbie.exe (located at : http://www.nu2.nu/bbie/ )
This tool is to extract boot images from a bootable CD-Rom or ISO image file.
Burning Software which can create a bootable CD (e.g. Nero)
You can use other software to burn you’re bootable CD, but I only explain the use of Nero 6.

What to do?

1. Create 2 directory’s :

D:\XPOrg
D:\XP_SP2

2. Copy all the files from the original Windows XP CD to “D:\XPOrg”

3. Place the SP 2 file in “D:\XP_SP2″

4. Extract all files from the SP file.
You can use the following statement : D:\XP_SP2\XPSP2.exe /x

The /x options let’s you extract all files to a specified directory. Select the directory : D:\XP_SP2

5. Update all the original Windows files with the files from SP2

Start the following command from the prompt:
D:\XP_SP2\i386\Update\Update.exe -s:D:\XPOrg

The update tool will now replace all the files in the XPOrg\i386 directory.
To create a bootable CD of the new Windows XP SP2 files, also follow the next steps

6.Place the original Windows XP CD in the PC.

7.Start the following command from the prompt:
bbie.exe X:
Where X: is the drive letter of the CD-rom drive
You now have a file named image1.bin

8. Start Nero 6 and create a new compilation with CD-Rom (boot)

Set the following settings as follows

9. Add all the files from the following directory to the compilation : D:\XPOrg

10. Burn your CD

11. Ready
